about

Finally, L’Oeil (2010) by Juan José Eslava closes the recording, delving into a not less fruitful field for a saxophone quartet: dilation of their instrumental resources interacting with the electronic environment. The Navarre composer does not restrict himself to the amplification, diffusion and live transformation of the set, but creates a timbral space of great richness and semantic longing relying explicitly on the corporeity of the musician, in terms of movement and vocality: “the word and the body meet at the voice”, as Jacques Derrida’s quote prays, serving as epigraph to the score, and the vocal emission of the performers, as well as the ‘humanized’ resonance of the electronic part, provides Eslava’s proposal, among other elements, with profiles of accused and persuasive originality.
